Hi ! We're delighted that you decided to stop by. Whether you are just passing through, in the area on vacation, or a local resident, you will find many enjoyable and exciting festivals, events, and recreational activities in Fries VA and the Grayson County VA and Carroll County VA area.
During the summer months, you will find outdoor and indoor music jams and performances by some of the area's old-time and bluegrass musicians at many locations throughout the area. If you didn't already know, Galax VA is known as the "World Capital of Old Time Mountain Music" and hosts the annual Galax Old Fiddler's Convention every August. In nearby Grayson County VA, Fries Virginia and Elk Creek Virginia have their own annual fiddler's conventions, they just aren't quite as large or well known.
Our area has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast such as the New River Trail State Park and hiking, biking, or horseback riding the New River Trail. Canoeing or kayaking the New River is a great summertime adventure, and the bass and trout fishing in the area are fantastic. For those more restive and relaxing times, watching and photographing the abundant bird and wildlife population is certainly a pleasure.
While visiting our area, there are many other scenic trails and places of interest within a short drive. Grayson Highlands State Park and the Virginia Creeper Trail near Whitetop Virginia provide a days outing among some of the highest mountains in the eastern half of the United States.
The Fries and surrounding area accommodations include bed and breakfast inns, rental homes and cabins, motels, and various campground facilities from primitive tent camping to an RV park in Fries suitable for even the largest of motorhomes.
Whether you're on an extended vacation, a weekend get-away, or just out for the day, come and enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia!
